Meanwhile, in Tulsa... I've been learning about the history of "jury nullification" this week. It is the reason a jury of our peers hardly ever convicted Northerners of protecting runaway slaves during the era, even though laws were made to prevent - but it's not all good. It's also why police who beat down Rodney King didn't get convicted. It's why today, not one police officer will get convicted of killing innocent black people even with obviously damning video footage. A recent episode of Radiolab has some very interesting info on the history. Maybe, just maybe learning about our chaotic American history can help overcome the utter frustration of today.
