For years, video game critics have spoken out against video games, which has contributed to the myriad of legislation in multiple states across the country. The time for gamers to stand up and speak out is now. In your own words, please share with us why video games need to remain free of government regulation.

From Derick Snow

Really the only new idea with videogames is the concept of interactivity. What that allows is to cease to be simply a passive 'take in' character, but it allows us to 'role play', something we have been doing ever since we put a towel around our shoulders and went flying around the house as a superhero.

I find it very sad that the only thing that these certain people in office do is attempt to regulate something they themselves do not understand. Legislation is either being made by people afraid of something new - OR they are simply trying to fearmonger just for the publicity (but not my vote) of being against something "for the children". It's incredible to think they can make better decisions better than a parent.

I also find it sad that so much money is being used to 'fight' an art form. It is meant not to fill our brains with violent thoughts. Our brain is stimulated to be sure, but in a more 'problem solving' way. Or in the case of better games, to bring about new thoughts that can potentially further our civilization. A videogame has just as much potential to inspire artistically as a book, film, radio, speech or any other media.

These politicians very much remind me of the talking head, "problem solving" anchors on the nightly news; taking news not at neutral face value but adding shock value to it all in the name of getting viewers numbed into submission. It has no real positive outcome for those involved. It simply creates a herd of shell-shocked, afraid-of-the world shut-ins with no one to listen to but the people that are putting fear into their ears.
